Venice

The only way I can explain Venice is to liken it to Narnia. C.S. Lewis does a pretty good job of creating a paralell universe similar to what approaching Venice feels like. The train, which actually crosses over onto the island brings you directly into a black dark train station. The main exit, situated in front of the station, is bleak with a less than modern arrival/departures board. All of the sudden you're shuffled through this exit and a massive amount of blinding light hits your eyes. And like a child through a closet, you emerge into VENICE. The most unreal, fantasy city I've ever been to. Canals and and bridges, people on foot, brightly colored buildings sitting on aqua marine water. You blink, because everyone knows this can't be true... and you continue to look around. All you see is water, water, water. The city is everything every picture made it out to be and more. I think it is the ideal 'far away land' city. The city that you day dream about. On top of it being in Italy, one of the most romantic places in the world, it has this larger than life quality to it. A floating city on an island with canals for streets? It couldn't be anymore perfect. This was one of my favorite days of the trip so far, and here are some snaps to prove it!
